Great tip ! While I do often stay out of the secret no mans land , I tend to want to cover the alley which makes it difficult to poach and also my recovery back is not fast enough so I could be susceptible to passing shots down the middle. How to avoid being passed down the middle and stop being frozen from taking steps backward to hit an overhead are key issues for me
I'm an active 76 yr. old that only plays doubles and have played at State, Sectional and National level tournaments. Occassionally, after serving, I get caught by an excellent return of serve (at my feet) as I try to move in too early. Obviously I'm in area 3 and probably should still be in area 4.
Excellent advice against pushers, bait with a short slice as he backs off, come to net. I don't do that = I try to hit a faster forehand from the base line.
